Modern interpretations[edit]

Although this concerto was already a popular concert piece, it was brought to a much larger audience through its inclusion, as one of six animated shorts based on classical music, in the 1976 Italian animated feature film Allegro Non Troppo by Bruno Bozzetto.

Vivaldi Concerto In C-major Rv 558

There are no trumpets in this piece. The solo violins in this piece are instructed to imitate the sound of a marine trumpet (trombe marina) which was not a brass instrument, but a large bowed instrument and one string with a very buzzy tone. Vivaldi 'adapted' some violins owned by the Pieta for roles like this by attaching pieces of metal to the bridge which would rattle on the body of the instrument. There are 3 solo concerti for this instrument by Vivaldi.
